Peripheral nerves are the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. There are many causes of peripheral nerve disorders including genetic or they can follow virus infections or as a result of nerve injury or compression. Examples of peripheral nerve disorders include Guillain-Barre syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome. A wide array of symptoms may occur depending on the part of the body the nerve damage occurs including numbness, pain, burning or tingling, and muscle weakness hence diagnosing peripheral nerve disorders can be difficult.
