1.5 TESLA MRI Commissioning

On the 28th of August 2019 Memfys Hospital (MH) officially launched its newly installed GE Signa Explorer 1.5Tesla 16 Channel MRI machine. The 1.5 Tesla MRI was the latest of GE’s models and came with highly advanced technological features that guarantee brilliant radiological imaging, faster scanning, patient comfort and capacity for whole body screening for cancer without exposing the patient to radiation. It also has the capacity to run a whole array of imaging spanning from paediatrics imaging to cardiac & vascular imaging, advanced neuro-imaging, musculoskeletal system imaging, enhanced gynaecological and obstetrics imaging, genitourinary imaging including prostrate as well as improved diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases. It is the first to serve the South-Eastern region of Nigeria and its neighbouring states.

The launch was graced by medical professionals, distinguished scholars, corporate bodies, GE Healthcare staff, religious leaders, media houses and many dignitaries. Prof. Shekarau Yakubu Aku, NNOM, the President of the Nigeria National Merit Awards (NNMA) was the Chairman of the occasion.  He was accompanied by his Registrar Mr. Namadi Ibrahim. He expressed delight over the landmark achievements Memfys Hospital has made over the past 17 years of its existence and applauded Emeritus Prof. Samuel C. Ohaegbulam, the Neurosurgeon-In-Chief/CEO, MH, for his visionary initiatives and accomplishments in fostering the Nigerian healthcare sector. He also congratulated the Management & staff of Memfys Hospital for their hard work and commitment.

The Host Emeritus Prof. S.C. Ohaegbulam, NNOM in his speech highlighted the trajectory the Hospital went through to achieve what has now become a milestone and encouraged other medical professionals to strive hard in their endeavour to uplift the Nigeria health sector. He also remarked that the new 1.5Tesla MRI would go a long way to improve the quality and volume of research, training and medical care the postgraduates residents at Memfys Hospital would embark on.

The highlight of the commissioning was the cutting of the ribbon to mark the launch which was performed by Prof. Shakarau Yakaubu Aku, NNOM. in the company of Emeritus Prof. S.C. Ohaegbulam, Mr. Namadi Ibrahim, Dr. Ike Okwesili NMA Chairman, Enugu State and Rt. Revd Dr. Christian O. Onyia, Anglican Bishop of Nike Diocese.
