Training

Memfys Hospital for Neurosurgery is the only private hospital accredited for full training in Neurosurgery in West Africa and one of only four centres fully accredited in Nigeria. MHN provides training for young and more experienced doctors embarking on a career in Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery. MHN also provides the mandatory training in neurosurgery for doctors specialising in Anaesthesia, ENT and Ophthalmology. To date over 60 doctors have been trained at MHN. MHN receives doctors on postings from Teaching Hospitals and Federal Medical Centres in Nigeria.

A number of Teaching Hospitals around Nigeria, including University of Nigeria, have taken advantage of MHN’ expertise in radiography by posting a number of undergraduates for work experience at the hospital. MHN also provides training in physiotherapy.

Some examples of undergraduate training provided by MHN include:

  • University of Nigeria – Department of Physiotherapy – clinical posting of final year BSc students
  • University of Nigeria – Radiography Department – postings in MRI and CT for final year BSc students
  • Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka postings for Medical students
  • University of Nigeria Nsukka postings for Psychology students

Memfys also takes a number of postings from the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) for newly qualified graduates.

MHN organises and hosts conferences for practising neurosurgeons in Nigeria.

Full accreditation to train Neurosurgery residents in Part II. Two (2) intakes per year with a maximum of 4 residents at any given time.

West African College of Surgeons
Full accreditation for neurosurgical training.

Shinsu Hospital Japan Postings

MHN has an arrangement with the Department of Neurosurgery, Shinshu University School of Medicine, Matsumoto Nagano, Japan to send residents on 6 months postings for training in neurosurgery. This arrangement has been in place since 2013 and to date 7 residents have been posted to Japan.
